The invention relates to that class of sewing machines commonly termed "Elastic" machines, used for making or repairing boots and shoes and for other purposes to which they may be applicable. In this class of sewing machine it is important to make the "arm" carrying tbe shuttle and the shuttle and mechanism operating it, as small and occupying as little space, as possible.

                          ... The mechanism of the sewing machine not shown to which our improvements are applicable is the same as that of the ordinary machine of this class and the rod which actuates the shuttle driver is also arranged and receives motion in the same manner, but the cam is shaped to give the movement to the actuating rod to the extent and at the time required relatively to the movements of the needle...
